Feasibility study and environmental assessment (PPG Drive to U.S. 90 East).


2009

Congressman Charles Boustany hosts briefing to discuss Louisiana highway issues, including I-10 Calcasieu bridge; LADOTD deems bridge “is safe” despite structural evaluation rating of a 3 by the National Bridge Inventory; spill area under bridge may need remediation—environmental review necessary.


2011

Pins on 48 girders replaced under bridge to help make bridge sturdier; Dec.-Jan. bridge closed to all traffic due to construction. 


2012

Huval & Associates conduct repair and rehabilitation including improvements to the bridge structure; DOTD approves pilot program to install lights on I-10 bridge. 


2013

August: environmental study to end in Spring 2016 — Now delayed to mid 2017 due to delay of Navigational Use Study.

 

Sept: State transportation officials solicit input from area citizens.

 

Oct: DOTD to conduct environmental study and take public input; LADOTD holds “public scoping meeting.”


2014

Navigational Use Study submitted to LDOTD — 9/2014; Determined 60 foot vertical clearance would serve all vessels except Friendships vessels. LDOTD committed to 73’ clearance which is shallow-draft standard on the Gulf Intracoastal waterway and other shallow-draft waterways.


2015

May: LADOTD announces bids will be taken within 6-10 months to fund rehabilitation of bridge.

 

Sept: Barrier alerts installed on median of bridge to help improve visibility.


2017

Completion of environmental study phase.
